Holy Basil and Lemongrass Tea

Holy Basil or Tulsi has a bright, antidepressant quality. It’s the preeminent herbal adaptogen, probably the number one herbal medicine in all of Ayurvedic medicine. Recommended that you eat it daily.  Holy Basil has been shown to promote a positive mood, restore balance, and rejuvenate the body and mind.

This is a cup of tea to be enjoyed anytime but especially mid-day when you are in the afternoon slump.

Adaptogen herbs are wonderful to incorporate into your daily diet.  They support your adrenal system and help balance your hormones, so you can manage your stress response on a day to day basis. They adapt to what your body needs and have the ability to regulate your system up or down depending on the need at the moment.

Lemongrass has a number of benefits including reducing anxiety,  aiding digestion, detoxing, regulate high blood pressure, and immunity boosting.

Cinnamon promotes healthy blood sugar levels and adds a delicious warming flavor to this tea.

  2. Hello! Thank you for your time in preparing this wonderful information. Can you substitute the basil, lemongrass and cinnamon bark with Doterra Essentials oils?

    All the best,

    Melanie

    • Hi Melanie,
You could try your suggestion if those oils have been deemed safe to consume and the safe amounts of each have been verified. ~HB Team

    • Hi Heather! Yes, you certainly can! The flavor and potency may be different with fresh leaves vs dried.

    • Hi April. This is a great question! Lemon balm has some similar benefits to lemongrass and a lovely flavor.

Please note that the immune boosting and blood pressure regulation benefits we list above are specific to lemongrass and not lemon balm. Additionally, those with hypothyroidism should exercise caution and consult with an herbalist or health practitioner when using lemon balm, as it can lower thyroid hormone levels.

    • Hi Pela. The ingredients used are generally recognized as safe in the herbal community. You can consult with a local herbalist or your health practitioner if you have any concerns.

  3. I recently bought dried lemongrass leaves as I heard it’s good for metabolism. I didn’t want to drink a plain lemongrass tea so after some searching I found your site and I’m loving the recipes! Thank you so much for sharing recipes for women’s health.

    • HI Abbie, Thank you for sharing with us! We are glad you are here! HB Support

  4. Love the recipes, I love lemongrass alone but additional herbs means additional benefits and new yummy flavors. I will be making a quart at a time and refrigerate it. Even though , warm is the best way to drink herbal teas, it is better to have it than not. That way I can take it to work for lunch.
I do that with the healing tea found in the estrogen reset book. Thanks for sharing your research, it will help many.
