Fenugreek Hair Regrowth Tonic

Fenugreek has been used topically for centuries in Ayurveda to strengthen hair at the root level. The good news is that fenugreek is widely available in most health food and herbal stores. If not, every Indian or Middle Eastern grocery sells fenugreek seeds.

My mom told me about this application and she swore by it—it helped the regrowth of her hair and helped her build volume. After applying the formula 3-4 times per week for a month, I finally started seeing the results. I had much more baby hair than ever before.

As always, I urge you to look deeper into the underlying causes of your hair loss which often times is due to thyroid, PCOS or estrogen dominance or the deficiency of Vitamin B12 or biotin. If you think you have a hormonal imbalance, take our quiz here.

Author:
Ingredients
  • 1½ cups hot water
  • 2 tablespoons dried fenugreek seeds
  • 5-8 drops clary sage essential oil
How To Make
  1. In the glass measuring cup, soak the fenugreek seeds in the hot water for 24-48 hours.
  2. Strain into the plastic bottle and add the essential oil.
  3. Use the leftover seeds to make the Silky Hair Mask, or discard.
  4. Apply the liquid from the bottle nozzle (or spray it if using a spray bottle) to your scalp and gently massage it in.
  5. Since the formula does not make your hair oily or dry, you can apply it after washing your hair as a leave-in conditioner. It has a slight smell but the clary sage will mask most of it.
  6. Apply 3-4 times per week until you see the results. After that, apply once per week for maintenance.

    Thanks!

        • Since the formula does not make your hair oily or dry, you can apply it after washing your hair as a leave-in conditioner. It has a slight smell but the clary sage will mask most of it. Otherwise, you can put it in your hair before bed, and then wash it in the morning. Whatever works best for you!

  3. Can’t wait to try it, but do the seeds need to be covered up after adding hot water to them, or leave it open?

I typically do not cover the seeds when soaking.

    • Hi Petronella. We do not have a recipe with all of these specific ingredients. The combination of fenugreek seeds and clary sage essential oil is very powerful for supporting hair growth. Does your shop carry the clary sage essential oil?

The other ingredients you mentioned (coconut oil, Jamaican black castor oil, and lavender) are all used for hair growth benefits. You might be able to do an internet search for recipes that combine these ingredients, or speak with a local herbalist.

  7. Please, can you confirm the quantiti of the water.
The recepy says: medium glass measuring cup – is this around 240ml (standard US measuring cup) . I leave in Europe and want to make sure about the metrics :).

    Thanks a lot

  8. Can I put in fenugreek oil in my treated hair as a treatment while mixing it with Dark and Lovely and I sit and the drier for 30minutes . Thanks

    • Hi Shallon, fenugreek oil can be used in treated hair, however, we do not know how this oil will interact during the treatment process with other products. This may be a good question for your hair technician. ~HB Support
