Honey is a wonderfully medicinal product, and it’s sweet and soothing to boot. In this recipe, we combine it with herbs and other ingredients to make a pain-killing medicinal paste.
What is Honey Paste?
Honey paste is a combination of honey with medicinal ingredients to treat a variety of ailments.
‘
This honey paste is specially formulated to combat pain. It starts with raw honey, combined with white willow bark and a blend of anti-inflammatory fresh ginger, turmeric, and apple cider vinegar.
What is White Willow Bark?
White willow bark is also known as “nature’s aspirin.” Its use can be traced back to Indigenous American healers, well before settlers ever landed. It’s helpful for treating all the ailments for which you might reach for painkillers, including headaches, muscle pain, arthritis pain, menstrual cramps, and more.
How This Honey Paste Helps Soothe Pain
White willow bark was actually an ingredient in early versions of aspirin, where its active, pain-killing ingredient salicin was isolated. For that reason, anyone with an allergy to aspirin should avoid white willow bark. NOTE: Do not give white willow bark to children due to the possibility of Reye’s syndrome.
How to Use This Honey Paste
In this pain-killing honey paste recipe, we use white willow bark ground into a powder. All you have to do is combine the ingredients, then infuse it for about one week.
Use it whenever pain strikes. It can be blended into a smoothie, as a tonic in warm water, or in tea.
- 4 tablespoons fresh ginger, finely grated
- 4 tablespoons white willow powder
- 4 tablespoons turmeric powder
- 4 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
- 1 cup raw honey
- Combine all the ingredients together in a small jar, mix well, and seal. Infuse for 1 week.
Storage: Keep in a sealed jar in the fridge for several weeks.
I see you call for fresh ginger but powdered turmeric. I buy fresh turmeric weekly. Is powdered more effective in this recipe?
I had the same question- interested to know the response-
No, we just used dried because it’s more easily available to people. Feel free to use fresh 🙂
Does it matter where the jar is stored to infuse for 1 week?
Hi Candace, you can infuse at room temperature for one week, keep the jar on the counter or in a cupboard, just remember to right the date on the jar:) ~ Jeanne HB Team.
So you eat this or rub on your skin?
Can you apply this paste as a topical pain reliever?
